Ralf Hoelzer-Germann

Teacher and Teacher Trainer

Dear English Students on Secondary and Upper Secondary Level ,

this section here is for you! I want to help you to become better in English and to be more successful in class and also more accurate when using English in your free time.

Therefore, I am not only providing you here with tons of English materials that you can download! I also want to inform you what I consider to be essential for the improvement of your English competences. That is why I also explain to you what I am doing here and how to use my materials effectively. Hopefully, I will succeed!

Let's give it a try!

What I believe in?

I believe that people learn a language most effectively if they confront themselves with the target language as often as possible. The best way to do that is, of course, to live in a foreign country for some time. The second best way, however, is to expose yourselves to the English language as much as possible, by, for example, getting in contact with English native speakers here in Germany or listening & viewing, reading, writing and speaking English whenever you think you have to time to do that. In the following I would like to follow that approach!
So what I do not much offer to you here is isolated grammar and vocabulary exercises. I am sure you will find enough webpages where you can check yourselves whether you have filled in a gap correctly or not.
What I offer to you here is to improve your text reading & comprehension, writing and speaking skills. Off we go!!

Step 1: Check Yourselves first!

Please assess yourselves as far as your text comprehension and text production skills are concerned and come up with first ideas what you can do to improve.

How to Write About Yourself (in a way that it makes others curious about your person)

Writing about yourself should make others curious about your person and character. Therefore, the following task and help sheets do not aim at coming up with a standard self-portrait containing information about age, family situation, workplace and hobbies. It is rather about the big questions in life or what matters to (young) adults in life. Let's take a look:
